Bright Light Marketing

When the going gets tough

With the never ending talk of austerity measures and cutbacks these are obviously very uncertain times. There’s absolutely no doubt that this affects us all and for those in private business we really do need to hold our nerve.

But on a much more optimistic note we genuinely believe that those businesses who continue to look after their customers and exceed expectations, who plan ahead properly and show genuine innovation will not only ride out the storm but will have a very bright future indeed.

In this newsletter we talk in greater detail about how to market your business much more strategically, how some of our clients are reaping the rewards from social media and what are the key issues facing businesses in Perthshire at the moment and some of the marketing advice we gave.

As ever we hope you find these articles useful and that they give you some inspiration on how to effectively grow your business both now and in the future.

To find out how Bright Light Marketing can help to get your business noticed then do give us a call on 01750 505051 and we’d be delighted to have a chat with you.

Very Best Wishes, Fiona, Janice and Fiona

Reaping Rewards from Social Media

Getting the best from social mediaDid you know that Facebook has 175million users and Twitter 75million users who log in on a regular basis.  More and more businesses are effectively using it as part of their marketing communications.

Since our last e-newsletter Bright Light Marketing have held a number of one to one training sessions with businesses to help start them on the their Social Media journey by assisting with set up and taking them through how to attract followers and how to use Social Media to tell the story about their business and get new business.

Some of the benefits of social media are:

Sell your product cost effectively – Facebook and Twitter are free so it is a cost effective way of marketing to current and future clients.

Increase traffic to your website – Using Social Media will increase traffic to your website and will be noticed by the search engines.

Bring you business – Social Media is not just a way of raising awareness about your business, it will also bring you business.  For example a few weeks after using Twitter a retail client had a customer come into one of their shops to buy a specific product which she had learnt about on Twitter or as someone said about a hotel client on Twitter "I am going to visit this hotel as they have communicated with me".

When the going gets tough – Plan ahead

You don’t need us to tell you about tough trading conditions in the market place and the fact that consumer confidence is still incredibly fragile. And if we listen to the doom and gloom merchants in the media then we might as well all shut up shop now ! However we must look on the bright side and take action to grow our businesses both now and for the future. We firmly believe that those companies who really focus on their customers and plan ahead properly will not only survive these tough times but become much stronger and be better positioned in the coming years.

This is easier said than done we hear you say but we firmly believe the answer to success lies in planning ahead strategically.Planning ahead strategically To keep existing customers and attract new ones we need to think like a customer and this has never been more important than at the present time. Customers are thinking twice before parting with their hard earned cash and it is vital that companies really deliver to them at every step of the way.

From the products and services we offer to customer care to how we communicate with customers, we need to exceed their expectations. It is always a difficult balancing act running the day to day operations of our business, looking after staff and taking care of the finances too and very often marketing is something that is not properly planned for. You know that marketing is something you should be doing but perhaps these are decisions which are taken on the hoof, an advert in the paper here and a special one off promotion there. But are you getting noticed and realising your true potential ?

It is also possible to look at key trends and market intelligence which are likely to shape consumer behaviour in the year ahead and most importantly act on this intelligence. The most important thing to do is to communicate with your customers because if you aren’t your competitors will be.
